Therm-a-Rest
In 1973, the first self-inflating air mattress was launched under the brand name Therm-a-Rest, which was the joint effort of Jim Lee, Neil Anderson and John Burroughs, former Boing engineers. In 1972, they founded Cascade Designs in Seattle, under which the world's first self-inflating sleeping mat was manufactured and sold. In the following years, Cascade Design obtained patents for their solutions and continually innovated their product range - in 1986 they introduced a unique foam mattress, in the following years sleeping bags, lighter self-inflating mattresses, air pads with an extremely high R-value, and in 2020 patented valves for the mattresses.
Cascade Designs also markets high-end outdoor products under other brands such as MSR, Platypus, PackTowl, SealLine.
